The Sky's the Limit

Evolution of the Blog

November 21, 2008 · 2 Comments

Deborah Ng of Freelance Writing Jobs weighs in on the current state of blogging. She asks, “Is it losing it’s warm and fuzzy vibe?

She seems to think so (to some extent). “I do think the whole make money online thing has changed blogging. Just like advertising has changed the way we watch television or sports, advertising has changed the way we view blogs.”

Her post is more balanced than others, taking consideration of the changing nature of the blogosphere rather than heralding it’s demise.

There’s no doubt blogging is changing. But that’s a good thing. Just as still water stagnates, movements that don’t change grow stale and uninteresting. The evolution of the blog is exciting and presents a myriad of opportunities.

I agree. I think it also depends on what types of blogs you read. There are still plenty of blogs out there who don’t do advertising and mainly write for friends and family or to make a record of the blogger’s experiences.

Many people, especially in today’s economy, are trying to find a way to combine something they enjoy doing (blogging) with a way towards more financial independence / stability (advertising revenue).
