Like Netflix for books, Booksfree allows users to rent books and audio books on CD. The service creates a queue of books from over 170,000 selections and ships the books automatically with free shipping and return. There’s no due dates or late fees.
Booksfree has been in business since 2000. They offer convenience, book ratings/reviews and opportunities to earn credit through donations. There are multiple (apparently about 3 doz.) pricing and availability plans to choose from.
It’s an interesting business model considering the local library offers many of the same features for free. Here are some of the benefits Booksfree claims can’t be found at the library:
- Large selection of available titles
- No guilt for nor finishing books you did not like
- Personalized Recommendations
- Interactive community of avid readers
- Large selection of out-of-print titles
Perhaps my local library is unusual, but all of this is easily available there. Booksfree does have the library beat in some things, however (e.g. home delivery, convenience and saving time).
I’ve not used the service; but Booksfree does have some testimonials from happy customers, and eight years of business is nothing to sneeze at. They also appear to have an excellent reputation.
What do you think of Booksfree? Have you used their service or one like it?
