James A Woods began critiquing fiction at Writers On the Net in early 1999. The e-mail list there allowed him to hone his critical skills and advise aspiring writers. Some of the works he commented on have gone on to be published.
He served as the Midland / Odessa, TX Municipal Liaison for NaNoWriMo.org for several years. National Novel Writing Month is a seat-of-your-pants approach to writing in which participants create a novel during the month of November. Municipal Liaisons plan local events and lead the foray into the 50,000 word challenge.
He has written over two dozen articles as a Senior Staff Reviewer for Book Worm’s Book Reviews at Fiction Addiction.NET and contributes to the Writers Showcase at the same site. He represented Fiction Addiction as a guest blogger at Love of Reading.com’s Online Book Fair in 2006.
He held the office of Secretary and currently holds the office of President of West Texas Writers. The literary non-profit organization assists writers and artists in their professional ambitions. Mr. Woods strives to provide vision for the writing community of West Texas.
Under his direction West Texas Writers created the Celebration of Writers. The annual Celebration honors writers and their craft, and provides published authors an opportunity to promote their books. A short story contest is held in conjunction with the event.
He has judged a flash fiction contest for FictionAddiction.Net and a short story contest for the North-East Texas Writers Organization.
He leverages the power of social media to promote personal and professional projects. He is a contributing writer for Suite101.com and, during the last quarter of 2008, promoted Yudu Media’s revolutionary e-publishing platform.
Mr. Woods developed a love for the written word as the child of parents who were often seen reading. C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien influence his writing and Emily Dickinson, Walt Whitman, Ray Bradbury and Frank Peretti round out his favorite authors. He resides in Odessa, TX with his lovely wife, two children, and two dogs.
